Do you want to know about African Clawed Frog Pregnancy Test? Welcome to a science-based topic today. Over the years, various types of experiments are being carried out in the continuous improvement of science.

At different times, scientists use different types of animals to complete the initial stages of various experiments in the laboratory! It has been seen that they sometimes choose mice, guinea pigs or any animal they need and like and complete this test.

Today we are going to talk about the African Clawed Frog Pregnancy Test through this article. In today’s post we will cover everything you need to know about this test.

Pregnancy test by African clawed frog:

Various types of experiments have been conducted on animals since ancient times in the modern world. After the experiment, the scientists used it for human or other good purposes only after its success.

Likewise, African clawed frogs used to be the world’s best human pregnancy test medium, because it was so easy and convenient back then.

African Clawed Frog Pregnancy Test: How to Do?

To perform this task, doctors would collect a female frog and inject a female’s urine right behind her. If the subject was positive after the injection, the result would show that the frog was laying eggs.

Although history knows that these frog or “hogben” experiments were very common starting around the 1940s and into the early 1960s.

It was later directed both because of the animal’s popularity and as a result of a scientific revolution, as well as to avoid causing a global environmental crisis as much as possible.

Although referred to as the Aschheim or Zondek or “A to Z” test, it requires one female’s urine and several female mice with that urine. In this process, mice or rabbits are injected and then wait for a few days.

The mice are then killed and their ovaries are tested for hormone-stimulated growth. As late as 1935, about 6,000 A-Z tests were administered annually in an English lab.

Later but contemporaneously a new one (pregnancy test) or pregnancy test was actively discovered and it also continued to reign for more than two decades.

Although this “Hogban experiment” began in the 1930s, when British biologist Lancelot Hogban launched a research program called a godsend for hormone research: the African clod frog or Xenopus laevis.

This test involves gathering a female frog’s pee, injecting it into its back, and seeing if the frog lays an egg within 12 to 24 hours have passed, you will know that the female was pregnant,”.

Lancelot Thomas Hogben at a Glance:

  • Born: 9 Dec 1895, Portsmouth, England, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
  • Died: 22 Aug 1975 (age 79), Wrexham, Wales, United Kingdom.
  • Alma Mater: Trinity College and Cambridge.
  • Professions: Experimental Zoologist, Medical Statistician.

This car of the “Hogben test” was simple. Here you have to collect a female’s urine and then inject it fresh and untreated under the skin of a female xenopus. Then you have to wait. If the female is pregnant, after 5 to 12 hours the frog will produce a cluster of millimeter-sized black and white spheres.

Today though, pregnancy tests are as simple as peeing on a small stick and then waiting a few minutes to see the results with your own eyes. This allows chemicals in the stick to detect a key pregnancy hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG).

Last words:

The African Clawed Frog Pregnancy Test gained quite a lot of popularity in the early stages even though an applicant had to have a doctor’s prescription to perform the test. In modern times, scientists have been able to study many other things besides heart disease, starting with the development of biology by using this frog.

Also, they are even working on new frog-based tests to diagnose incurable complex or difficult diseases like polycystic kidney disease. Thank you for reading this article till the end and we are happy to have a new information today.
